Nvidia has added new 4G LTE capability to its Tegra Note 7 tablet platform by plunking the i500 LTE modem into the hardware platform. Enhanced Note 7 LTE devices should be available for about $299 approx. £180 from various partners staring from Q2 2014.
There’s also embedded HSPA+ connectivity, which is fast enough for daily requirements. The 5th generation i500 modem is approximately 40 percent more compact than typical modems in the market. It is has software-based capabilities that offer new features without requiring a new tablet chipset. The smaller footprint also contributes to lower power requirements.
Nvidia added an OTA update with enhanced camera and stylus features, as well as bringing the platform to KitKat Android 4.4.2 operating system. The platform also supports the Gamepad Mapper feature that allows users to control touch-based Android games through Bluetooth-based controllers, including the Nvidia Shield.
The Tegra 7 is powered by Nvidia Tegra 4 SoC, which is consisted of Cortex A15 quad-core processor and embedded GeForce GPU. These tablets are also typically equipped with 7-inch (1280 x 800) display, 5Mp rear-facing camera, front-facing camera, microSD card slot and 16GB of onboard storage.
In the United Kingdom, LTE connectivity uses Bands 3, 7 and 20 (800/1800/2600) and Tegra Note 7 tablets are currently available through Dixons.
